Job Description:
Job location: Burlington, WA

The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) designs, implements, directs and co-
ordinates manufacturing materials and processes to achieve the most
efficient, cost effective and high quality production possible in a safe
and environmentally responsible manner. The ME is responsible for leading
the transition from new product development to manufacturing; providing
daily manufacturing support for existing products; and leading
implementation of design changes and quality improvements. The ME works
closely with all functional groups to develop robust, cost effective
manufacturing and assembly processes and related documentation for use
throughout the manufacturing facility. The ME drives continuous
improvements by applying lean techniques to work cells, organizing kaizen
activities, and promoting 5S and kanban pull systems to eliminate waste in
the value stream.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Analyzes, develops, and recommends design approaches to meet
production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes
using a Design for Manufacturing (DMF) approach.
· Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products
including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating
results.
· Participates in "make/buy" decisions to determine the most cost
effective manner in which to manufacture hardware.
· Represents Manufacturing on cross-functional teams to review
product design with respect to the most optimized, efficient, and cost
effective manufacturing methods. Introduces designs, drawings and
specifications to Manufacturing.
· Establishes process control parameters and defines Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs), setting production standards that optimize
First Pass Quality (FPQ) and yield.
· Provides shop floor support, interfacing with other functional
groups as required, to resolve processing issues with sound, lasting,
corrective actions.
· Analyzes space requirements and workflow, and designs the layout
of equipment and workstations to ensure maximum efficiency and an
ergonomically sound work environment.
· Specifies/Designs and coordinates fabrication of Patterns, Molds,
Fixtures, and Gauges required in the manufacture of components and
assemblies.
· Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.
· Develops capital equipment/project plans and justifications.
· Assists in implementation of an effective preventative maintenance
function.
· Performs research and development of manufacturing processes
including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
Conducts special studies and evaluations aimed at developing new
technologies to reduce cost/lead time, and improve quality/product flow.
· Studies potential manufacturing locations, for goods and services,
raw material sources, labor supply, energy resources, financing, and taxes
involved.

· Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems such as Solidworks and CADKey
· Lean Manufacturing principles; 5S, Kanban/Pull Systems,
Cellular/Continuous Flow, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Total Productive
Maintenance (TPM), etc.
· MRP/ERP systems
· ISO 9001:2000 Quality Systems, quality orientation and attention
to detail
· Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point,
Outlook, Project, Visio)
· Malcomb Baldrige National Quality Award criteria
· Statistical Process Control (SPC)
· Problem analysis and problem resolution including Design of
Experiment (DOE)
· Plant layout and material handling techniques
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate
effectively with people at all organizational levels
· Self-starter and ability to work with varying levels of supervision
· Strong team player with leadership skills and ability to drive
change
· Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
Education and/or Experience: B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering Technology,
Industrial Technology, Manufacturing or related Engineering degree, 3-5
years experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with
Rotational/plastics molding processes and mechanical assembly
